This is an original press photo. Callao, Peru - A scene in Callao which was one of the most severely hit cities in the quake that struck the entire Peru seacoast today. Some 1,000 houses were destroyed in Callao and Lima and 58 were killed in Callao. So far 103 people were known to have died in the quake in the country. Callao is the port for Lima, the capital. It was the most disastrous earthquake in Peru in 50 years.Photo measures 9 x 7inches. Photo is dated 05-24-1940.
