1914 Press Photo French Cavalry Troops Cross River During World War I, France
This is an original press photo. When France Tried a "Blitzkrieg" of Her Own in 1914--France: When the first German offensive through Belgium to within gun echo of Paris, had spent itself, the French started a counter-offensive that drove the German troops far back. They retake French cities between Roye and Chaulnes in a drive that shows speed and "push." They are pictured here crossing a river on a pontoon bridge that they constructed in three hours. A cavalry troop goes over first. In present day warfare it might be a tank troop that would first cross. The river is none other than the historic Marne. Editor's Note--This is sent to illustrate an important incident of the First World War. It occurred exactly 25 years ago today; World War, BelgiumPhoto measures 8.5 x 6.75inches. Photo is dated --1914.
