This is an original press photo. Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Each year the natives of Ethiopia celebrate the first of the "Maskahl" to mark the end of the rainy season. Everyone from the Emperor down took part in the Gala Ceremonies. Here we see priests and tribal chiefs on the steps of the Imperial Palace during the rites. The occasion was marked by evidences of war preparation. The celebrants knew that the end of the rainy season would mark the start of the Italian advance in Ethiopia. They were correct. The Advance started a few days later.Photo measures 10.25 x 8inches. Photo is dated 10-10-1935.
