Hello and thank you for viewing our listing. We appreciate your time.
For
your consideration, we are offering an original, hand-painted 1940s/50s sign for an Italian-American restaurant
(Soners) in Culver, New Jersey. This one-of-a-kind image is classic Americana and features a risqué, cheesecake
pinup style waitress holding a tray with a cupcake on it. Once framed on a wall, it's sure to command attention and start
conversations.
We lean toward saying this unsigned illustration is from the 1940s based on two factors:
1. The restaurant's telephone number is written in the pre-area code fashion. Area codes were introduced in 1947, but
only in the U.S.'s largest cities (NYC, Chicago, L.A., etc). It took over a decade for area codes to be completely implemented across the country.
2. The illustration's style is strongly reminiscent of a World War II-era pinup. The early 1950s is also a possibility, but we
lean toward the 1940s.
