1949 Press Photo Map showing planned flight route from Puerto Rico to Florida
This is an original press photo. At least 43 persons, including 18 infants, were believed to have perished in the crash of a twin-engine unscheduled airliner four miles west of San Juan, Puerto Rico. One engine failed four minutes after the ship took off from Isla Grande airport, San Juan, bound for Miami, Florida, with 81 persons aboard. Pilot crash-landed into the sea 200 yards off Point Salinas (X), but reports indicated only 38 persons were able to escape the craft, which sank in six minutes. Photo measures 8 x 6.5 inches. Photo is dated 06-07-1949.
