Bow string wax is used to protect the bowstring from environmental elements, maintain the string's life, and improve the bow's performance. Waxing the bowstring:

A well-waxed bowstring feels smooth and slightly tacky. If the string feels dry, discolored, or fuzzy, it's time to wax it again. Top archers wax their strings every two to three weeks, or before competition if it's going to rain.

To wax the string, apply wax directly to the string, or roll some wax in the palm of your hands until it becomes soft, pliant, and warm, then run the wax up and down the string.

String wax is 0.5 oz weight and 2.5 inch length.
