VENUS ITALICA / APHRODITE MARBLE BUST / SCULPTURE AFTER ANTONIO CANOVA (1757-1821)

MADE IN ENGLAND

In 1804, famous sculptor Antonio Canova was commissioned to create the ‘Venus Italica’ by Ludovico I, King of Etruria, after the ancient Medici Venus had been plundered in 1802. Canova relished the challenge and in 1812, his finished sculpture was placed in the Palazzo Pitti Gallery, Florence.

This beautiful, feminine sculpture depicts Venus (or Aphrodite in Greek), the Goddess of Love after Canova's famous marble statue as she emerges from the sea in one of the most copied antiquities of all time. The high quality workmanship showcases the intricate details of her face and hair – it's a fabulous piece of art to own and display.

Add a touch of elegance to your home with this stunning sculpture produced using a specialised dry casting technique. Cast marble statues are made from natural crushed marble stone mixed with a small amount of bonding material which is poured into the designed mould. The powder is so fine that the smallest details can be reproduced using this method. Over 90% of the finished sculpture is natural marble which gives it the crisp detail found in our extensive range of sculptures, busts and wall plaques.

All our sculptures are finished by hand to ensure the finest quality.
