Antique Limoges Game Bird Cabinet Plate. Hand painted and artist signed, either L èon or I. éon. The back has the green crown mark for Comte D'Artois. The plate is approximately 11 1/2" and trimmed with heavy gold. It has pre-drilled holes with a wire if you prefer hanging it for display.
The
Mark The Comte D'Artois name and mark originated in the 18th century
when King Louis XVI of France took over the manufacturing of all
porcelain. It was manufactured by his brother Charles X, the Comte
D'Artois. The mark on this plate is not from the original Comte
D'Artois. The only reference to who used this particular mark was found
in the Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, Third Edition by
Mary Frank Gaston on page 428. The mark as seen on this game bird
cabinet plate is an unknown decorators mark. The mark is almost always
the only mark on the porcelain. However, there was a piece that was
marked "Gimbel Brothers Limoges" from around 1930. It is possible that
Gimbel was the source of this Comte D'Artois mark.
Condition No chips, No cracks. No crazing. The raised beading is the only place I see some loss of gold. It is not noticeable unless you hold the plate very close.
The photographs show the plate from different angles to minimize glare. Please look closely at the photographs as I do consider them as part of the description. Please email if you have any questions. I pack carefully and ship fast.
