Palace Of The Governors Santa Fe New Mexico Vendors Under The Portal NM Postcard

Nearly every day, especially during the warm sunny days of summer, the Indians from the nearby Pueblos gather on the portal of the Palace of the Governors to sell their handmade articles. Their presence here, and the privilege to sell here, is a time-honored custom.

This painting by Gene Boyce Guest is a good representation of this daily event under the portal. It was painted in 1964 by Gene Boyd Guest.

In 1945 Bob Petley began a postcard business – The Petley Studio, Inc. – and with just 12 (13?) black and white original designs he developed a network of more than 3,500 dealers in five states. Millions of people around the world saw Arizona for the first time across Petley’s cards. He chronicled Arizona’s landscape for decades. He made millions, but in 1984, Bob sold the Petley Studio and retired to Scottsdale.
