DESCRIPTION

A very scarce early UK edition of this work, in a very scarce illustrated dust wrapper, price unclipped.

This novel, first published in 1890, is based on events in the life of Saint Thais of Egypt, a legendary convert to Christianity who is said to have lived in the 4th century.

The work of Anatole France, often considered to be one of the greatest French writers of the Third Republic. 

Undated; dated c1902 via Jisc. This work was first published in the UK the year prior.


CONDITION

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with unclipped dust wrapper. Fading to spine, with bumping to back strip head and tail. Slight discolouration to back strip tail. Boards bright. Light spotting to fore edge of text block. Dust wrapper back strip significantly age toned, with minor discolouration to wrap perimeters. Light tide mark to tail of rear wrap. Small losses of paper to dust wrapper back strip head and tail, with two small tears to tail of front wrap, and a further minor closed tear to head of rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting to first and last few leaves, with pages otherwise clean and bright.
