Offered by Over The Blue Horizon and recently obtained in Tokyo is a superb, vintage pictorial: “CAMOUFLAGE AND MARKINGS OF HTE IMPERIAL JAPANESE NAVY FIGHTERS IN WWII".
Published by the well-regarded MODEL ART Publishing firm as No 272 in 1986, this 154 page, this well-illustrated reference work covers the major Imperial Japanese Navy (JN) fighters and as the title specifies, focuses on their camouflage and markings. Aircraft covered include the Mitsubishi A5M CLAUDE and A6M ZERO, the float-plane derivatives of the ZERO, the Kawanishi Kyofu (REX) floatplane fighter and its land-base derivative, the GEORGE, various twin-engined night-fighter interceptors, the rocket-powered Shusui, and many, many others. In addition to very well-done line drawings, this publication contains exceptionally useful b/w photographs, color chips, and color examples of unit lettering that the IJN used on their aircraft tails and fuselages. See the accompanying scans and enjoy some examples of the illustrations in this book. Text is in Japanese but the quality of the illustrations transcends the written word.
