A Kentucky mop is what you reach for when the floor is big and the job needs doing quickly. The wide yarn head holds a serious amount of liquid, lays it down evenly and picks it back up again, which is why they've been the standard in pubs, kitchens, schools and warehouses for decades. This is the 350 g size — 12 oz in old money — light enough to work with all shift, heavy enough to cover ground properly.
The socket version is the one worth buying. Cheaper Kentucky setups need a separate clamp-style holder that works loose, drops the head mid-job and gives you three components to keep track of instead of two. Here the fitting is moulded into the head, so it goes straight onto the handle and stays there. When the yarn eventually wears out you swap the whole head and keep the handle — and because it's a standard Vikan handle, that same pole will take a squeegee, a broom or a scrubbing brush if you ever want it to.
