DESCRIPTION

The scarce first edition, first impression of this work, in the publisher's original price unclipped dust wrapper.

Inscribed  to the artist 'R. W. Alston from R.C. Trevelyan 19 May 1945'.

Virgil's works of poetry - initially composed between 42 and 29 BC - are here translated into English by poet R. C. Trevelyan, a close associate of the Bloomsbury group who is best known for his verse play 'The Bride of Dionysus'.


CONDITION

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, fine. Inscription to front free endpaper. Dust wrapper age tone to back strip, with light edgewear to back strip head. Ink mark to head of front wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
