DESCRIPTION

A first edition of this travel handbook for Stratford-Upon-Avon published by T. Nelson, featuring a detailed biography of Shakespeare. With eleven colour-tinted plates, collated and complete.

Following an introduction to Shakespeare's ancestry, childhood, youth, and public life, the volume offers a history of the playwright's home town and the poet's associations with specific buildings.

Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. The book previously belonged to John Hewetson.

With a sixteen-page catalogue of publisher's adverts to the rear.


CONDITION

In the publisher's original green cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. The cloth is discoloured to the bottom edge of the front board. Lightly rubbed to the boards, more so to the spine, which is bumped to the head and tail. Internally, generally firmly bound, with a little strain at pages 80 to 81, and pages 96 to 97. Aside from some light spotting to the front and the rear of the volume, pages are bright and clean.
