Large iridescent natural Tanzanite gemstone originating from Tanzania. This weighs 12.40 CTS and has been cut and faceted into a cushion style. The measurements are approximately 18.0 x 11.7 x 6.8 mm.
The stone has a deep, almost royal blue coloring with slight undertones of purple. The visual effects are quite remarkable with a dazzling display of sparkles and a strong shimmer. There is also colorful sparks from rainbow inclusions, and a noticeable internal violet flash of light. The violet flash is considered a highly rare and desirable trait for a Tanzanite.
The gem has a good transparency but cannot be considered flawless as there is visible natural inclusions and variations as shown in pictures. The natural variations are actually responsible for many of its unique optical properties.
Tanzanite is considered one of the most rare gemstones in the world, and is known to be more rare than diamonds. It is estimated that the stone is up to 1000 times more rare than diamonds. It is only found in northern Tanzania near Mount Kilimanjaro. It is estimated by analysts that once the current supply runs out, the remaining pieces will be "heirloom" items.
