DESCRIPTION:

 

A fine Art Deco style dress clip, part of a large private collection which I recently bought in. Each item in the collection is labelled with the origin, date of collection and attribution details.

 

It is made from white metal and pavé set with clear rhinestones in both circular and baguette shapes. The strongly geometric design is typical for the 1930s period.

 

Made in the USA with clip mechanism strong and secure.

These clip brooches are superbly made with fine craftsmanship and would add a real touch of old Hollywood glamour to any evening gown!

Dress clips – sometimes referred to as clip brooches – are stunning pieces of jewellery. They memorialise a specific era in jewellery history from the 1920s to the 1940s. The film industry of the 1920s played a large part in the popularity of dress clips. Massively influential celebrities like Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich appeared on the silver screen sporting dress clips, and so people were more inclined to get their own. In the 1920s and ‘30s, dress clips were widely regarded as a must-have accessory.

 

Versatile pieces, dress clip duos can be worn a variety of ways. One such way is as two separate clips, usually on either lapel of a jacket or straps of a dress. Another way dress clips are worn is as a single, combined brooch. Dress clips can be affixed to one another to create a single, large brooch, with some of them having three distinct parts, where each end of the brooch is a clip and the central element is a separate bar brooch that can be combined to be one extravagant brooch.
