A 4.5" tall rectangular-shaped clear-glass antique COSMETIC BALM bottle from SAN FRANCISCO CALIFORNIA.  This is a very ornate bottle with a COLORFUL LABEL on one side of the bottle, still corked and sealed with ORIGINAL CONTENTS and comes with an ADVERTISING FLYER then wrapped in a COLORFUL OUTSIDE WRAPPER.  This is a label ONLY bottle, it is NOT embossed; BUT it is a very early hand Blown Into Mold bottle (BIM) with a tooled top, and from the base embossed markings, it dates back to the 1880 period at the latest, that is dating over 125 years old, over ONE and ONE QUARTER CENTURY old, to put it in perspective.

  • Bottle's label reads:  "COCONA BALM ~ DIRECTIONS ~ BATHE * THE SKIN AND / THEN RUN IN THE / BALM UNTIL DRY.  MANUFACTURED ONLY  / BY THE  / COCONA CO. / SAN FRANCISCO, CAL."

  • Base of bottle embossed:  "McC".   McC stands for the William McCully & Co. Glass Works, which were located in Pittsburgh, PA.   They started business in 1841and went out of business in 1886. **

  • Condition:   Bottle is in PRISTINE SPARKLING CLEAN condition.  It has NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc.  We opened one for photo'ing but the one you will receive is unopened, still wrapped and packed in original packaging, UNCIRCULATED.

  • Age: An antique hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with a tooled-top, ca. late 1800's.  As seen from info above ** this bottle was made in 1886 at the very newest.

  • Shipping: FREE domestic shipping.   We DO ship Internationally but we do NOT insure International orders unless buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance estimate.  If an international shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates.  We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time.

What a rare and beautiful old-western antique bottle.   Note it has the full contents (Cocona Balm) as the bottles seal has never been broken.   On the heal of the wrapper it reads, "SCHMIDT LABEL & LITH CO. S. F.", the company that printed out the colorful label and packaging.   ** In the book, "The Pioneer Drug Store", written by David Bethman, extensive research has been done on all of the early glass houses that produced the bottles for the early western drug store, pharmacy, and apothecary shops.  He reviews all of the maker's marks on the base of these bottles, and it was here in this book, page 75, that the base mark on this bottle McC, was given the history of, as I mention above under the "Age:", dating this bottle from before 1886.   This is an OLD bottle, and about as original of an old western antique bottle that could be had, labeled, in package, with full sealed contents.  What you'll receive is an original unwrapped bottle, still sealed up in its paper tissue outer protective wrapper.   We unwrapped only one for photo'ing, but the one in this sale has NOT been unwrapped.  The new owner can decide how they want to display it, all sealed and complete as received, or they can go ahead and unwrap it to display, as it looks in the pictures herecheck it out!
