A selection of letters written to William Carstares throughout his career as a Whig politician. 

Offering a fascinating insight into the world of British politics during the beginnings of the Whig party.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, which appears to be extracted from a different work.

Carstares was a Church of Scotland minister, working at court as a royal chaplain.

Institutional label and stamp of Hampshire County Library to the recto to the front endpaper, and to the reverse of the title page.


CONDITION

Rebound in a quarter morocco binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with light marks and rubbing to the boards and spine. Institutional mark to the tail of the spine. Institutional label and stamp of Hampshire County Library to the recto to the front endpaper. Security sticker to the rear pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spots, and a tidemark to the first few pages. Institutional stamp to the reverse of the title page.
