Illustrated with a frontispiece, one further plate, and a map, all the work of the author himself. Collated, complete.
Based on Jones's own experiences as an infantryman, the poem narrates the experiences of English Private John Ball in a mixed English-Welsh regiment over the course of seven months, ending at the assault on Mametz Wood during the Battle of the Somme. The work employs a mixture of lyrical verse and prose, and ranges in tone from formal to Cockney colloquial and military slang.

CONDITION
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Discolouration to back strip and board perimeters, with light handling marks to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
