For sale is a set of four early-looking silver apostle
spoons with different saint finials, likely products of Hanau, Germany from the
late 1800s. The spoons are 4 3/8 inches
long and together weigh 103 grams. They
are solid cast silver, with similar stems topped with four different saint
figures, identified on the edges of the bowl interiors as “St. Paulus, St. Jacobuoni,
St. Bartolomaus and St. Ictius”. The
spoons have not been monogrammed. The
spoons are marked on the bowl backs with an [N] replica mark for the town of
Nuremberg. They are also stamped inside
the bowls with Austrian import marks used from 1891 to 1901.
Condition on the spoons is quite good. They are made to look old and worn, but there
does not seem to be any later damage. A
fine set of apostle spoons.
