Roadway Illumination Assemblies
Roadway Illumination Poles do not need to be pre-qualified when TxDOTRIP (Roadway Illumination Pole) standard sheets are included in the plan set.
Perform work in accordance with the details shown on the plans, and the requirements of Item 610 and applicable Special Provisions to Item 610.Fabricate steel roadway illumination poles in accordance with TxDOT standards RIP (Roadway Illumination Pole). Poles fabricated according to RIP standard sheets require no shop drawings. Alternate designs to RIP or the use of aluminum to fabricate poles will require the submission of shop drawings electronically.
The Roadway Illumination Pole (RIP-11) standard details were developed for installations in locations where the 3-second gust basic maximum wind speed is 110 mph, and where the elevation of the base of the pole is less than (i.e. not more than) 25’ above the elevation of surrounding terrain, in accordance with the “AASHTO Standard Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaires and Traffic Signals,” 4th Edition (2001) (AASHTO Design Specifications). For poles to be installed in regions where the maximum basic wind speed exceeds 110 mph or to be mounted more than 25’ above the surrounding terrain, the contractor shall provide poles meeting the following requirements:

Submittals. Following the electronic shop drawing submittal process (seeftp://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/library/pubs/bus/bridge/e_submit_guide.pdf),the contractor shall submit to the Engineer, for approval, fabrication drawings and calculations for the poles. The drawings and calculations shall be sealed by a Texas registered or licensed professional engineer (P.E.).
Roadway Illumination Assemblies
This product is pre-qualified for use on the projects where roadway illumination assemblies are furnished or installed as required by the item descriptive code. Fixtures are subject to testing. No substitutions of products will be allowed when pre-qualified products are shown. Where miscellaneous parts, brackets, hardware, nuts, bolts, washers, or other incidentals are necessary and are not shown as pre-qualified products, the contractor shall furnish products that meet the requirements of the plans and specifications.
