Giant transparent 85.00 CTS natural ametrine gemstone originating from Mozambique. This measures approximately 30.9 x 22.7 x 18.4 mm and is cut into an oval shape.
The stone shows great color of both golden citrine and purple amethyst. The coloring is more dominant in the citrine zoning. Despite the extra large sizing, the overall quality of the gem is of a very high grade and displays an excellent luster and intense sparkle.
The clarity of the ametrine is amazing and there is no discernable flaws or inclusions. Extremely small variations can be seen under magnification and this can be considered eye clean and near flawless clarity.
The condition of the gem is also excellent with no visible damage. There is one very tiny surface mark on the back of the stone approximately 1 mm in size. It is so small and insignificant that it is hard to see in the magnified photos.
Ametrine is a dual color variety of quartz that displays zones of both amethyst and citrine coloring. The name " ametrine " derives from the first half of the name " amethyst " and the last half of the name " citrine. " The largest deposit of ametrine is found in Bolivia, and is why its sometimes referred to as " Bolivianite "
Ametrine has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, which makes it durable enough for regular wear. It can be considered the birth stone of both February and November. According to historical records ametrine was first introduced to Europe in the 1600s by a Spanish conquistador as part of a dowry for marriage to a Bolivian princess.
