THE SHURE TRACKABILITY TEST RECORD

Most people are remotely familiar with the name Shure. Whether it's because they have owned one of their phono cartridges, or perhaps they are familiar with the fact that Shure makes the best vocal microphones in the world and pro's use them in concerts and on TV all the time.

Regardless, of WHY the name is familiar, it is a common fact that SHURE knows a little something about sound! This record was produced in 1973 during the heyday of Hi-Fi, but even then was illusive and hard to get. Today, finding a sealed copy is almost like finding a gold strike in terms of High Fidelity.

The following is an abbreviated synopsis of the info on this record...

"This recording is a audible test of a phonograph cartridge's trackability: that is, its ability to stay in contact with the groove modifications over a wide range of frequencies and intensities; in other words, to track the groove.

This is the true measure of a cartridge's performance because it incorprates the design parameters of compliance, mass, etc. It avoids the misunderstanding generated when only one of these parameters is taken as a criterion for performance.

We know that this is the main factor in determining dynamic range in a recording. Sometimes tracking demands may be so severe as to make some recorded passages unplayable. The stylus will simply jump to the next groove; or mistracking may be so subtle as to cause a violin to sound muted, or unnatural.

Most cartridges should be able to effectively track the mildest recorded material on this record at their rated stylus pressure, but only a truly exceptional cartridge will track the 5th level without breakup.

Side one will help you determine your own situation. Side two contains the selections from which the musical bells, sibilance and violin tests were taken, recorded with a wide dynamic range...."

This is a brand new copy, still sealed in shrinkwrap. FYI, they do not recommend you use this in monaural systems, only stereo. It will be shipped with album removed to prevent splitting of either the inner sleeve or outer jacket and shipped in a genuine cardboard album shipper...
