Antique Regulator Wall Clock W/ Key & Pendulum & Phrase
Overall in good condition. It’s very old, and shows obvious signs of age, but it’s structurally sound and not falling apart or anything.
I could not get it to function totally though. It does wind well (see notes below), but the pendulum, although when initially prompted, it does tick for a bit, and the pendulum does swing, but it does not keep swinging, and its tick does not sound as it should. It’s not a “happy” tick though—kind of similar to when a clock is not mounted squarely / flatly. I did try it at various angles, but to no avail. However, when the pendulum is swinging, the time does advance as it should.
The pendulum does hook as it should to the clock mechanism.
The access door to the pendulum is missing its little handle / knob, I believe, and this knob may have twisted to latch in order to keep the door closed when desired. So the door does not remain totally closed without it. It remains almost closed, but not all the way closed. This could be easily remied though.
It winds and responds as it should wind-wise when winding (increasing tension as it gets closer to being fully wound).
During winding, it occasionally makes a little spring-like jolt/click, but it’s not bad, and the clock does not lose its wind. Just seems like it notches down a wee bit during winding. But it does wind well. This occurs with both the clock and chime windings. It’s more of a subtle “shit” actually. But it’s not bad or anything.
For these reasons, I’m selling it as-is, for parts or repairs, with no returns.
The chime works and sounds good. As it’s chiming, in addition to the chime (it’s a nice, quiet chime; not too loud or too quiet. It doesn’t distract or interrupt conversations when it chimes.
Comes with key (it even looks to be the original key, but I have no way of knowing for certain).
Hangs well and stable.
The clock cover opens and closes as it should, and when it closes, it closes very securely, even with a good latch, to ensure it does not open accidentally.
The face is in decent shape. It says “Trade S Mark” on the top, and in the lower center it says “The First Time I ever Saw Your Face…” I truly do not know if the phrase written was done after it was produced by a precious owner, but it was professionally painted on, and it was done a long time ago. The age of the writing hits it could have been close or at the time the clock was produced—probably in the late 1800’s.
Approximate measurements: 12” Wide at its widest point X 4 1/2” Thick at its thickest point, including glass clock face door X 21 1/2” Tall. The clock face itself is 7” in diameter. The pendulum’s diameter is 2 1/2”.
Shipping is to the continental United States 48 states. Alaska and Hawaii will incur additional charges. Please contact me for shipping quote before purchasing. Thank you.
Comes W/ Key.
I don't enjoy saying this, but due to a few bad apples almost spoiling eBay for all of us, a seller must protect themselves as well--especially on the higher-dollar items, so the clock’s information is logged, and “mapped" (interior / exterior) with detailed pictures, in the event a return is made with a different clock, or a part is changed or removed. Again, please accept my apologies for this statement. It's only directed toward "the 1%".
