We offer for your consideration this Victorian Biscuit box by JG&S

John Grinsell started a new business with his sons (Thomas Bywater Grinsell, James Erazmus Grinsell, Lorenzo Grinsell and Joseph Charles Grinsell) as John Grinsell & Sons.
The firm was active at Victoria Works, 57 Tower Street, St. George's, Birmingham.
Show rooms were opened at 13 Charterhouse Street, Holborn Circus, London and 73 West Nile Street, Glasgow.

combining wood and metal. This combination of materials resulted in a very distinctive style.

This biscuit box dates to around 1875. It is approximately 8 1/2 inches tall from the tip of the lid finial to the bottom of the ball feet. The box is approximately 5 inches square, with some variation due to the hardware. The oak wood is quarter sawn, showing some interesting grain. Other variations of these boxes had ceramic linings, that would sometimes fracture. This box has a silver plated metal lining.

This box is in overall good condition. We did notice the box has warped somewhat over these many years, resulting in a slight wobble. This situation could be easily remedied by doing some adjustments to then ball feet attachments.

The silver plate is in good condition and should shine up brightly if you so wish.
