Another unusual find! Here is an 1847 British "Orphan Working School" medal made of white metal. It is 50mm in diameter. The front side of the medal/coin has an image of the orphanage building. The reverse says " FOR THE CHILDREN OF BOTH SEXES, OF EVERY DENOMINATION, AND FROM ALL PARTS OF THE KINGDOM FOUNDED 1758 AT HOXTAN REBUILT IN 1773 IN CITY ROAD AND REMOVED TO HAVERSTOCK HILL HAMPSTEAD ROAD". The school established in 1758 moved to a larger property in 1847. This medal is a commemoration of that new facility in 1847.
This medal is in a high state of preservation and seldom encountered. It could be a really scarce or rare one. I was unable to find this exact medal in my research. Contact us if you know anything about this one. If you are looking for something really rare with a low mintage or survivability, this is it!
