FYI: - The stamped temp of the thermostat is when it begins to open. Operating temp will be at least a few degrees higher: eg., a 180 will likey run about 182-185 deg
FYI:- run hotter for better economy / thermal efficiency
- run colder for more horsepower*****
N.b Ford design engineers elected for a 192 thermostat in most STD applications and a 180 in their performance applications.
MUST READ!!!! : The 351c needs a unique thermostat because of a 'By-pass
plate' (brass ring) that sits just below the thermostat position. If this
orifice is not partially blocked or fully blocked while the thermostat is open,
hot water will continue to circulate around the engine instead of passing
through the radiator. At the very least this will lead to temperature creep and
eventually over-heating.
For decades Cleveland engines here and in the USA have been suffering
from 'mysterious' over heating issues for decades. Predominantly misdiagnosed
and blamed on: thin cylinder
walls, bad water pumps, pulley diameters, back to front head gasket, and a myriad of other time consuming,
frustrating and expensive exercises that could have been solved by one little
'correct' thermostat.
Why has no one offered this in the market before now ??
Perhaps it's this simple: It seems too easy and too good to be true....
and no one knew what the correct thermostat was supposed to look like, not even
so called 'experts'. Have you heard this before? " Nah, it cant be the thermostat, i just put in a new one from REPCO!" And... Most people
wondered what that brass plate, under the thermostat was even for ????.
So if you want the correct thermostat for your Cleveland then this is
the one.
