A pretty matched pair of amber celluloid hair ornaments from the early 20^th century

These pretty hair accessories are fresh to the market, being part of an extensive private collection which I recently purchased.

 

They are made in a beautiful translucent shade of amber celluloid and the asymmetric design shows that they were intended to be worn at the side or back of the head. They may well have been placed on either side of one of the low chignons which were fashionable in the period 1910-1920s.
