The DB-1A is designed to convert unbalanced signals such as those from electric guitars, bases, and keyboards, into a buffered balanced or unbalanced output. for direct insertion into mixing consoles and tape recorders. The DB-1A does not use or require phantom power, (even though it can be connected to phantom power systems) and therefore it is not limited to the constraints of phantom powered design. It uses state-of-the-art techniques that cannot be found in conventional direct boxes, active or passive. The DB1A boasts a totally active transformerless audio path with no insertion loss. The line-level output mode allows direct insertion into tape decks, bypassing mic pre-amps and mixing consoles completely. The DB-1A has incredible headroom, more than most mixing consoles.

The DB-1a requires two 9V batteries (not Included) or the Simon PS-1 Power Supply which is included. 

The Simon Systems PS-1 DC Regulated Power Supply provides clean independent, low-impedance power. The PS-1’s regulated ±18VDC and high current output allow the DB-1A to utilize state-of-the-art designs that are not possible with phantom powered DIs. The PS-1 also doubles as a charger for the DB-1A when ni-cad batteries are used.
