Blind stamped blue cloth binding. Spine has rebacked with original cloth laid over, gilt lettering is rubbed. Light marking and rubbing to covers, corners a little bumped and worn. Repairs to endpaper joints. Front endpaper marked and has slight damage where a label has been removed. Initials in ink to bottom page edge. Good solid binding. Half title page has later ink inscription (over an old faded inscription dated 1857). Internally the book is generally clean with no foxing, a few pages have had the corners folded. There are occasional margin notes and markings in old ink interestingly linking the novel's setting to Kirkby Hall and the Weldon area of Northamptonshire. The rare first edition of Lawrence's first novel. Overall Condition is Good
