LARRY BARTON ~ 1947 Los Angeles Angels (PCL)

Very Limited Edition FIRST PRINTING of just 50 cards

Remember the old Pacific Coast League trading cards - those colorful cards with rounded corners produced by Mother's Cookies back in 1952-53. Well, Carl Aldana has done it once again! He has followed up his attractive 47-card 1950 Sommer & Kaufmann San Francisco Seals set, colorful 73 card set of Seals from the World War II era and 3-card DiMaggio brothers set with several more selected singles, including this one. 

First Printing

This is a first printing offer. Just 50 cards were printed in total. If a subsequent printing is made, there will be distinguishing characteristic(s) so this First Printing will remain special.

The card measures 2-1/4" by 3-1/2" - nearly identical to the early 1950s Mother's Cookies cards which were 1/16" narrower at 2-3/16" by 3-1/2".  It is unnumbered and features a period advertisement for Mother's Cookies printed on the reverse side. Like other Carl Aldana commemorative cards, this one looks magnificent mounted in standard 9-pocket collector pages.

About the Subject

Larry Barton played professional baseball for 24 seasons including 15 at the Double-A and Triple-A levels. Although his career totals are incomplete, records show a career hit total of at least 2897 included 607 doubles, 101 triples and 281 homers, good for 1665 runs scored and 1668 runs batted in. A first baseman on defense, Barton served with 4 Pacific Coast League (PCL) clubs: Oakland, Portland, Sacramento and Los Angeles. In '47 the Los Angeles Angels won 106 games to edge the San Francisco Seals for PCL top honors. 

According to the [2006] Beckett BASEBALL CARD ALPHABETICAL CHECKLIST book, this is only the subject's third-ever baseball card.
