Being offered on this auction is
Girl Figurine made by Bing & Grøndahl of Copenhagen,
Denmark. This is B&G Figurine # 2162. It is
called "Youthful Boldness First Kiss". It features adorable boy
kissing beautiful girl. Boy is in blue school uniform. Girl is shown in her
white with pale pink flowers (they are embossed) open evening dress, which
she apparently wears first time in her life for school party. Sculpture
stands on flat pedestal. This looks splendid and very cute. Sculptor Claire
Weiss (b. 1906) designed this figurine. Her initials CW are incised on the
backside. She was working for Bing & Grondahl for many years and was a
creator of many cute children figures like ‘Anne’, ‘Pardon Me!’, etc. She
also designed for Lorenz Hutschenreuther and Rosenthal art departments,
creating children as well as dancers.
Bing & Grondahl (B&G) was
founded in 1853 and existed until 1987, when Royal Copenhagen merged with
Bing and Grondahl. B & G, Bing & Grondahl refer to the founders:
Fred. Vilh. Grøndahl (1819-1856), technical director; the brothers M.H.
Bing (1819 - 1883) and J.H. Bing (1811 -1896) as economical directors. This
figurine is marked with three towers in green. This hallmark comes from the
City Coat of Arms of Copenhagen. ‘B&G’ printed below the tower in
green, ‘Kjøbenhavn’ printed in green semi-circle, ‘Danmark’ and ‘Made In
Denmark’ below identifies production of 1958-1962. There are also ‘B&G’ printed in blue and code ‘2162’ as
well as production artist initial ‘M’ in green. We do not know the name of
this artist. This figurine is still in production as Royal Copenhagen model
number 1021-447; it is not in production for US market now and special
orders need to be placed to import it to USA.
Figurine measures about 5 ½” x 3”
and stands about 7 ¼” tall (20 cm). Condition is immaculate with no chips
or cracks found. Colors are bright and vibrant. Please look at the pictures
