Featuring 21 engraved plates, including a frontispiece to Volume I of The History of America.

William Robertson (19 September 1721 – 11 June 1793) was a Scottish historian, minister of religion, and Principal of the University of Edinburgh. Robertson's most notable work was probably his History of Scotland 1542 - 1603, begun in 1753 and first published in 1759. He was a significant figure in the Scottish Enlightenment and also of the moderates in the Church of Scotland.


CONDITION

In quarter calf bindings with marbled boards. Externally, rubbed. Internally, firmly bound. A few scattered spots. Ex library set with stamps to the front free endpapers.
