DESCRIPTION

The work was was written by William Thomas, who was a clerk of the council to Edward VI. Thomas was a strong defender of the character of Henry VIII, and wrote this volume after his death. It was, however, never published in English, only in Italian, as Thomas was living in Italy at the time.

The Victorian historian James Anthony Froude found the one handwritten copy in a museum, and subsequently sought to finally publish it hundreds of years after it had been written. This was after his work on his famous work 'History of England from the Fall of Wolsey to the Defeat of the Spanish Armada'. Froud was a historian and editor of 'Fraser's Magazine', changing his career after aspiring to become a clergyman.
