This is a Brand New OEM Upgraded Rheem/Ruud/Richmond/Vanguard/GE Water Heater Pilot Assembly Kit. It includes the spark ignitor, thermocouple, gasket and pilot tube and everything else seen in the photo.

Function:
 

The purpose of an ignitor is to ignite the gas after the gas valve opens up. It most cases, the ignitor turns off after ignition has occurred.
