Note On The Artist:       Lou Zheng Gang was born on 20 May 1967 in Ji Xi Shi, Heilongjiang Province in China. At the age of six, she began to learn calligraphy from her father, Lou De Ping-a skill which, by the age of twelve, won her government recognition as an exceptionally gifted child. As a child prodigy, she received permission to enter the Central Academy of Fine Art, where she was taught by some of the best known masters of calligraphy and ink painting. In 1980, Ms. Lou won first prize at the National Youth Calligraphy Exhibition in China and one year later, she was elected a member of the Chinese Calligrapher's Association. By the tender age of fourteen, she had become the youngest ever participant in the Australian sponsored International Calligraphy Competition. After winning the Chinese National Calligraphy Competition in 1982, she devoted the next few years to her studies, attending Beijing University in the mid-1980's. In 1985, Hong Kong TV broadcast a documentary about her life and her work. With the support of her government, she traveled to Japan, eventually settling there in 1987 after holding her first exhibition at the Yeasu Gallery in Tokyo.

 The overwhelming success of her first exhibition led to a second, highly acclaimed, show sponsored by Television Tokyo and the Chinese Embassy. Other shows soon followed at the Sogo Group department stores in Yokohama and seven other Japanese cities. In 1990, a further series of exhibitions also sponsored by the Sogo Group, considerably enlarged the circle of her admirers and collectors, leading to the 1991 establishment of the Lou Zheng Gang Sponsorship Committee headed by two former Prime Ministers, a renowned artist and several leading bankers and industrialists. In 1991, she launched a two year series of exhibitions held across Japan, entitled Oriental Melody - Lou Zheng Gang Calligraphy and Paintings, sponsored by the Yamaha Group. Since early 1993, she has been sponsored by the Daiei Group and in May, held an exhibition at the Nihon Bashi Mitsukoshi which marked her transition from child prodigy to distinguished artist.

NOTES ON "FLEETING BLOSSOM":       "Fleeting Blossom" marks the first major introduction of Lou Zheng Gang's work to the United states, bringing to American shores the extraordinary art that has brought her such acclaim in China and Japan. In her elegant style, Lou Zheng Gang portrays the certain chaos caused when a natural disaster strikes. The distinct contrast of color used in "Fleeting Blossom" symbolizes Mother Nature's sudden, unexpected and seemingly spontaneous change. Behind the magnificent pink flowers which immediately catch your eye, a rustic plain is divided by an iridescent rift, as two blue birds, one on either side, flee upwards, creating a sense of frenzied motion.
