Original 1897 Baltimore News (Newspaper) Photograph/Collectible featuring the image of Hugh Jennings Hall of Famer from the Orioles. Measures about 6.5X9 inches. During the season of 1897 the Newspaper put out pictures of the Orioles players from time to time on the cover of the Newspaper to be cut out and saved by kids and used to promote sales of the paper to Baseball Fans. In the purest sense, these ARE Baseball Cards! The Orioles players were large and were issues during the season. At the end of the year when the Orioles faced the Boston Nationals for the Temple Cup, the paper issues similar photo/cards of the Boston players as well but since they were the "visiting" team, they are smaller. Some of these are trimmed down as intended by the paper to be "cut and saved", while others have survived with parts of the top newspaper border still attached, many with the date of issue! Condition varies (see scans) but these are 115 year old collectible Baseball Card/Photos and the only ones I have ever seen in 20+ years of collecting. Each has printed newspaper text on the back.
