The spine cover (and parts of the front and back covers) has been varnished.   The spine cover is tight and the binding is good.  The pages are good but have yellowed slightly. The book is a former library book and has a library # on the spine, library stamps, and a pocket on the back inside cover.  There are many black and white illustrations.
