A Standard Missile Three (SM-3) is launched from the Mark 41 Vertical Launch System (VLS) onboard the US Navy (USN) TICONDEROGA CLASS: GUIDED MISSILE CRUISER (Aegis) USS LAKE ERIE (CG 70) at the Pacific Missile Range Facility, Kauai, Hawaii. The US Navy (USN) and The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) announced a successful flight test in the continuing development of the Sea-Based Midcourse (SMD) element of the Ballistic Missile Defense System.
