Rare hand-colored antique lithograph "Norfolk Dumplings or Grace Before Meat" by important British caricurist, illustrator, and satirist George Cruikshank (1792-1878). During the 18th century, Cruikshank was one of the most celebrated and popular caricaturists in England, lampooning political figures and the Royal family, corruption, and cultural movements without mercy. In the 1830s and 1840s he was a prolific illustrator for Charles Dickens and for books and pamphlets promoting temperance.

This lithograph was likely produced during the first part of the 19th century. Robert Patten suggests it was done in 1814 in his book George Cruikshank's Life, Times, and Art: Volume I 1792-1835 (published in 1992). The print is listed as #1461 in Douglas's The Works of George Cruikshank published in 1902 and it is included as #1289 in the Truman Collections: Catalog of the Collection of Works of George Cruikshank published by Sotheby's in 1906 prior to the sale of the collection. It is apparently quite rare (an early pencil inscription verso suggests so) and difficult to find. The print is signed in the stone. It measures 12.25" x 18" (paper size). It is in good condition with soiling and wear near the margins. Unframed with remains of mat tape on the upper margins
