An absolutely amazing baseball image appears on this woodblock printed schoolbook, titled Shogaku Tokuhon Vol.1 (Elementary School Reader Vol.1). This is the earliest time that baseball was mentioned/introduced in Japan. Historically very important piece. As shown in the 12th photo, the same book in later issue was sold for over $500.

The description below of the baseball image says "The children gather together and amuse themselves by throwing a ball. Those who hold sticks take pleasure in catching the ball that has been thrown. Anyone who fails to catch it is considered the loser. This ball is soft and not hard, so it causes no injury even when it strikes someone. Although this is a good game, it should be stopped early on hot days, for exposure to excessive heat can be harmful to the body".

In case the buyer fails to provide required paperwork when necessary or fails to pay custom charges, and the parcel is returned, I cannot issue a refund as I will still be charged the original shipping cost, return shipping cost, etc.

***Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying. These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up - do not confuse them for additional shipping charges. I do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as "gifts" - US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior.***
