History notes from
online:
Product Line: Despite the name of the company suggesting a focus on "Paint and Lead," the company specialized heavily in industrial coatings, general lubricating oils, greases, and automotive fluids. One of their highly advertised flagship products during this era was "Paramount Auto Oil".
During the mid-to-late 1910s, Republic Paint & Lead Works aggressively built a direct-to-consumer and business-to-business sales force. They placed ads across newspapers nationwide seeking "bright young men" and local representatives to sell their guaranteed lines directly to automobile owners, farmers and factory operations. By the 1920's the company became unstable. The company's assets, brand name, formulas, and intellectual properties were bought out of receivership by The Klein Manufacturing Company, another prominent industrial paint and roof coating producer located in Cleveland Ohio.
