Good Home wanted for Dowler & Sons pre 1900 Porteous top GSW

General Service Whistle

94 Gt Charles St Birmingham, solid Nickel

Dowler moved from 94 Gt Charles St

to Graham St in 1901

Worst thing about this whistle in the dent by the window!

The whistle is very very slightly bent too.

You may be able straighten it gently in a padded vice,

as a result one side blows a bit weak.

BUT still a nice early whistle, and will probably not fetch much money - good luck!

Only one whistle, many views.

This is the actual whistle you will get.
Great whistles accurately described, with all their faults.

SEE MY OTHER ITEMS FOR SALE!
I tend to save things up and sell them in batches so check my other items.

Reason for selling.

My whistles are housed in the loft of a 1930’s house.

In those days the lofts would maybe hold a few empty suitcases.

Now of course we have so much stuff, (and whistles)

That the slender ceiling joists

(3 by 4 inches in our house as opposed to 8 by 3 inches for the floor below)

Can no longer support the weight of the collection.

I lie in bed at night watching the ceiling bow more and more as time goes on.

It’s started to creak in the wind now.

I can see the headlines now

“Man killed in bed by falling whistle collection”

It would be a first! (I think)

So because I need to live to 120 years old to get the kid’s books published,

The lighthouse built and achieve financial solubility,

The whistles need to be thinned out a little.

Gradually.

And with much heart searching and big boys knickers on.

I hope you can benefit from the gradual cull.

GENERAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe people are basically good and want to help each other given the chance.
I also want my things to go to a good home where they are looked after and appreciated.

My basic philosophy is to describe all the defects and damage,
so you won’t be disappointed when the item arrives, see my feedback for accuracy of description.
I never clean things, not because I'm lazy, more of a fear of ruining things by over cleaning.

I've got into a bit of a habit of starting at a low price.
That way the item finds it's own price - and you often get a bargain.
I don’t put reserves on things and never withdraw anything,
even if I’m making a loss (and I do sometimes!).

POST & PACKING

I used to take a day off from the coal mine to post this stuff,

wrapping and lugging down to the post office

and for the pleasure of hanging about in a queue

for up to 45 minutes.

Plus if it’s my wife’s turn to wear the clogs

for her shift down the mine

I have to do the 18 mile round trip in bare feet.

That’s not as bad as it sounds

because I’ve trained myself to pick up fag ends between my toes.

anyway I let Ebay calculate the postage, now it was nice to add a few bob on for the hassle of P&P

and Ebay make the money on the postage

Thanks for your custom,

if you’re passing anytime we do tea and a sticky bun

for 40p a lump.

RETURNS POLICY
I have tried to describe this item honestly and to the best of my ability.
Should I have genuinely misrepresented this item,
I offer a full refund on return including postage costs.

PROBLEMS
If you have any problems about anything please get in touch rather than leave negative feedback.
There isn't a problem you'll have that I can't solve, and sometimes I might make a genuine mistake,
so don’t sit there feeling fed up, e-mail me. It is never my intention for you to feel stitched up.

If you have any questions regarding this particular item please ask them before bidding,
I have a project on at the moment and can’t always get to a computer every day,
please allow for this.

FEEDBACK
I will always leave positive feedback for prompt payment -
please leave feedback for me, then at least I know that the item has reached you.

POST & PACKING
I will post within 48 hours of cleared payment AT THE LATEST,
very often it’s sooner than that.
In fact if you don't get the item in a few days -
SOMETHING WILL BE WRONG!
email me immediately so I can sort it out

I now get a proof of posting thingamajig from the post office every time.

I use recycled packaging where I can, but I do it well,
NOTHING I send out gets damaged in the post.
If you get a package that looks as though it’s been wrapped
by a 3 year old wearing boxing gloves - that’ll be me.
I only send out things recorded if asked for (and paid for).
Postal insurance available at cost, please ask.

good luck and happy hunting
(and I really do mean that!).
