Antique 830 Silver Novelty Horse Hoof Cheroot Holder – Hinged Horseshoe – Cased

A particularly unusual antique novelty cheroot holder, fashioned in the form of a miniature horse's lower leg and hoof, with beautifully detailed textured decoration.

The piece is marked 830, indicating 830 standard silver (83% silver content), a fineness commonly encountered on Continental European silver.

An especially attractive feature is the hinged horseshoe at the base of the hoof, which opens to reveal the hollow compartment intended to accommodate a cheroot.

The opposite end has a small threaded amber-coloured fitting with a central aperture, apparently intended to accommodate a detachable mouthpiece.

A small suspension loop is fitted to the side, suggesting the holder could originally have been carried on a chain.

The piece is accompanied by the fitted presentation case shown in the photographs.
