Stuart Devlin Sterling Silver Caddy Spoon – London c.1981 – Floral & Feather Design

A particularly attractive vintage sterling silver tea caddy spoon by the celebrated British silversmith and designer Stuart Devlin.

This beautifully crafted piece features a broad, gently pointed, polished silver bowl, complemented by an elaborate naturalistic handle with finely textured feather-like forms, delicate flowers and foliage.

The contrast between the smooth reflective bowl and the intricate decorative handle creates a particularly appealing and distinctive design.

The reverse bears a full set of London sterling silver hallmarks, including the SD maker's mark for Stuart Devlin and a stylised date letter believed to correspond to 1981.

The elaborate feather and floral decoration is reminiscent of the naturalistic designs used by Devlin in his royal commemorative caddy spoons of the early 1980s. However, this example has no visible commemorative inscription or limited-edition number, and is offered simply as a Stuart Devlin silver caddy spoon.

Condition:

Attractive vintage condition, retaining considerable original character and finely detailed decoration.

The polished silver bowl displays some surface scratches and light marks from previous handling and use.

There is some tarnishing and discolouration within the intricate floral and feather decoration, particularly around the recessed areas of the handle. This would benefit from careful, detailed cleaning or polishing if desired.

The spoon has not been aggressively polished, and the original surface character has been retained.

Please examine all photographs carefully, as these form an important part of the description.

A beautifully designed and collectable example of British sterling silver, combining Stuart Devlin's distinctive craftsmanship with attractive naturalistic decoration.

Of particular interest to collectors of Stuart Devlin, British designer silver, decorative silverwork and unusual tea caddy spoons.
