Brief Description: King's Rhapsody was a musical with book and music by Ivor Novello (1893-1951) who was a Welsh actor, dramatist, singer and composer who became one of the most popular British entertainers of the first half of the 20th century.
With lyrics by Christopher Hassell, The musical was first produced at the Palace Theatre, London on 15 September 1949 and ran for 841 performances, surviving its author, who died in 1951. Novello had the title role of the heir to the throne under pressure from his long-lived mother, Queen Elana, to abdicate in favour of his infant son. Phyllis Dare played his mistress Marta Karillos, her sister, Zena Dare played Queen Elana. These two pictorial programmes were found together in an auction purchase. They consist of attractive purple 'velvet type' covers and each programme consists of 20 pages with one extra pages giving a full cast list and some pictures of the production staff. Collectable
