1947 Soviet Union 30 kopeks commemorative depicting Kazansky Railway Station in Moscow, issued for the 800th anniversary of Moscow.

The anniversary dates 1147–1947 refer to Moscow’s traditional founding date, based on its earliest known written mention in a medieval Russian chronicle in 1147. The Soviet postal service marked the 800th anniversary with an extensive series portraying important streets, buildings and monuments of the capital.

This value features the monumental Kazansky Railway Station, one of Moscow’s principal railway terminals. Its famous early-20th-century building was designed by architect Alexey Shchusev as a symbolic “gateway to the East,” combining Russian architectural traditions with motifs associated with Kazan. The station’s tall tower and distinctive façade make it one of the most recognizable buildings on Moscow’s Komsomolskaya Square.

The stamp was designed by Ivan Dubasov and Vladimir Andreev and issued on 7 September 1947.
