Robyn Hitchcock is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist known for his surreal, witty lyrics and idiosyncratic vocal delivery. Emerging from the late 1970s/early 1980s post-punk and neo-psychedelic scenes, Hitchcock has led The Soft Boys and sustained a long solo career marked by jangly guitar work, melodic hooks and an often dreamlike, off-kilter approach to songwriting. His music blends folk, rock and psychedelia with eccentric narratives and memorable characters. Over decades he has maintained a devoted following thanks to his distinctive voice, sharp wordplay and consistently inventive arrangements. Invisible Hitchcock is a compilation/reissue that gathers rarities, alternate versions and selections spanning earlier recordings; the disc notes credit this reissue/compilation to the years 1982, 1984, 1986 & 1995 and was issued by Rhino Records in 1995. The set showcases Hitchcock's range from acoustic, folk-tinged numbers to more electric, psychedelic and country-tinged arrangements, including alternate takes such as "The Pit Of Souls (Country Version)" and bonus selections for collectors. For both new listeners and longtime fans, the release highlights Hitchcock's eclectic songwriting and the breadth of styles he explored during that period.
