Atsonea English Gilt Regency Revival Convex Butlers Mirror C1930s 1950s

An attractive English convex wall mirror by Atsonea, made in England and dating approximately to the 1930s–1950s.

Designed in the Regency Revival tradition, the mirror features a circular gilt-finished frame surrounding a strongly convex or “bull’s-eye” mirror plate. The broad outer frame is enriched with a rhythmic series of raised spherical ornaments, fine moulded borders and a dark contrasting inner surround. A decorative crest gives the piece additional architectural presence.

The reverse retains the original manufacturer’s label reading:

ATSONEA / SUPERIOR PRODUCTS / REG. TRADE MARK / MADE IN ENGLAND

The convex mirror plate creates the distinctive wide-angle reflection historically associated with so-called butler’s mirrors, while the gilt finish and classical detailing make this an appealing decorative object in its own right.

Condition

Good vintage condition overall. The convex mirror plate is in very good condition. The gilt frame shows normal age-related surface marks, wear and patination consistent with use and age. One small spherical decorative element is missing from the lower central area of the frame. The original rear maker’s label and hanging fitting remain present.
