Cover Cotton terry poncho by Don Loper, Beverly Hills photographed by Leonard Nones
Photography Leonard Nones
Leonard Nones was a men’s fashion photographer who largely contributed to the character and spirit of GQ magazine, which made its transition from Apparel Arts in 1958. From 1955 to 1970, the fashion supplement featured Nones’s work on countless editorials and covers. His sexy and stylish photographs capture that ever-so brief period in the 1960s when wildly color-and-patterned textiles were acceptable for men’s attire. He also experimented with double exposed images, which made for visually compelling cover designs. Some of his celebrity models included President Lyndon B. Johnson and baseball player Joe Di Maggio.
